| I am looking forward to this year with anticipation and invite you to come on board with me in discovering your passion. I heard a wonderful definition for passion I wanted to share with you to reflect on throughout this powerful 2007 year. "Passion is the energy that comes from bringing more of YOU into what you do" I also wanted you to consider this letter being sent to you by someone that is very close to you. It is a letter from Our Goals and Dreams. Keep in mind this is a private note from our hopes and dreams, and it speaks loudly through our subconscious. I trust it will be powerful enough to get your attention, and more importantly, compelling enough to get you to take action and make this coming year the best of your life. The purpose is to provide an outlet, a voice for all of those hopes, dreams, desires, and goals that you've neglected. If your goals, hopes, and dreams could talk, what would they say? Let's hope that they wouldn't write you the following letter, especially at the end of 2007. With Men, they refer to Dear John Letters and with us as Women it is referred to as Dear Sue letters. Dear ____________________________(add in your own name) You probably already know what this letter is about. You've seen it coming; I know you have. It's about us,___________ It's over. I'm leaving you! I've hung on as long as I could. You've got to give me credit for that. I mean, the way you swept me off my feet and talked lovingly about the future we would have together. I have waited so long for your embrace, your attention, and your love. Why have you neglected me? Why have you made so many excuses? Your inaction and addiction to procrastination is tearing me apart. I simply must move on! For years, I would get so excited every time you talked about the business we were going to start, the places we were going to visit, and the home on the water where we could watch the sun set every night. My heart would pitter-patter every time you talked about me to other people, only to be let down once again because you were afraid. Sue, what are you afraid of? It's only me! I am your hopes, dreams, and goals. I wanted you as much as you wanted me, but you have left me no choice. I simply must move on! Please do not attempt to talk your way out of this. The years of indecision and lack of discipline tell me everything I need to know. If you really--and I mean REALLY--wanted me, you would have found a way for us to be together. I am tired of having my hopes soar so high just to just to see them dashed. I simply must move on! Time is marching by without us, and my greatest fear is suddenly becoming visible on the horizon. I am so afraid that we could come to the end of our lifetime and never have the chance to really know one another. It breaks my heart to even entertain this thought, but I simply must move on! Like the Genie that grants three wishes, I wanted to give you your heart's desire. All I wanted, needed, and asked for was your attention, your devotion, and your willingness to work hard for me. If that was too much to ask for, then I'm sorry. I simply must move on! All things of value must be earned, and I've grown tired of your excuses and lack of patience. On numerous occasions, I was within your grasp, but you quit too soon. Why did you leave me when you were so close? I'll let you in on a little secret. Every day I would call out to you, "I am your goal, here I am, come and get me!" I'm curious. Did you ever hear me? I repeated this question day after day, month after month, and year after year. But now, I've grown tired of hearing that the timing is not right, that you're tired, or that someday you'll get around to it. It's now time that I get around to it myself and find someone who is committed, focused, and proactive. I simply must move on! On behalf of all of your hopes, dreams, and desires, there is something you should know about us. We will never fail you, nor will we ever let you down. The main reason why we have not embraced one another is that you have failed us by not taking action! Why? Sincerely, Your Goals +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Granted, we rarely get that kind of feedback when we slack off on our efforts to achieve. But few of us have never heard that small voice calling to us, "I am your goal, here I am, come and get me!" Now's the time to be planning for a powerful 2007 year. If you are hearing that voice now, it's time to reach out and embrace that goal, those dreams and wild aspirations before they get away. Over the next few weeks and months be sure to find some time to reflect on the past year, give thanks for your blessings, and most importantly plan for the new year ahead. Remember, life will not go according to plan, if you do not have a plan. This coming year presents the ideal time for contemplative thought and careful planning. Invest time and energy to talk with the most important people in your life about your goals and dreams for 2007 because the last thing you're going to want to do is receive your own Dear Sue letter of regrets. Let's visualize massive success for each other and continue to focus on your dreams and goals throughout the year and support the goals and dreams of others as they began to discover their mission. Let's Have the Most Passionate Year Yet, Barbie K. Reed Celebrate Life and Make it a Masterpiece |

| (Daytona Beach News Journal, Sunday May 8, 2005) Reed’s adversity the basis for her teaching, workshops By CHERYL VASSILIADIS CORRESPONDENT “Sincerity.” “High energy.” “Passionate.” “Exceptional determination.” Those are some of the qualities that others use to describe Barbie K. Reed. But, for Reed, it comes down to one thing: “I want to give women and girls the secret to be as successful as they have a right to be.” As Reed describes her life, her reason becomes evident. “Her story resonates because she came up from adversity,” said Carol Wick, director of the PACE Center for Girls of Volusia-Flagler. “Because of her struggle,” Wick said, “she is very passionate about getting the girls to a place they really want to be, so they don’t feel they have to just settle for what they were dealt in life.” That “adversity” — that “struggle” — come from abandonment in early life by her parents, Reed said. While searching for an identity, she said, Reed grew into a woman who took control over her life, and wouldn’t take no for an answer. Those who know Reed call it “a glow” — one that she can’t keep contained. She said she’s always spreading it around — to her husband, Ken, and son Barry, to granddaughter Moniqua, and to almost anybody else who will listen. Since becoming the first black bank teller in the Daytona Beach area, Reed said she saw a need to help others by assisting people with financial problems, so she created a budget and counseling service. The U.S. Small Business Administration recognized her as one of the top 10 women entrepreneurs of 1989 for that effort. She and her husband formed B.K.R. Unlimited, which has offered diversity training, team building and leadership workshops to local and national businesses, governments and organizations — including Stetson University, EVAC, VOTRAN and the City of Daytona Beach. Her “Nurturing Seminars for You” sprung from her strong belief in the empowerment of women. “I know I have found my voice in this venture,” said Reed. “It has become my purpose. . . my passion. Now I know that this is what I was meant to do. I want to give women and girls the secret to be as successful as they have a right to be.” Reed teaches workshops and conducts seminars, retreats, support groups and life coaching sessions for women of all ages including some specifically for mothers and daughters. Wick, the director of PACE, has worked on several programs with Reed. “She is extremely high energy, especially in working with us,” said Wick. Linda Sullaway remembers experiencing Reed’s “glow” more than 20 years ago, when Reed spoke to a group of displaced homemakers at the Women’s Center at Daytona Beach Community College. “I could feel the sincerity in her story,” said Sullaway, whose life had been shattered and who didn’t know where to turn back then. “She is so genuine and down to earth when she talks about her life — you just knew she was talking from her heart.” Reed said it all has to do with one’s state of mind. “We need to change the mindset of our belief system,” she said, speaking of the negative voices that women — especially teenaged girls — listen to on a daily basis. They compare themselves to a false sense of perfection that beams into their lives through television, movies and magazines, Reed said. In order to combat the barrage of negative feelings, Reed said she seeks to inspire through programs that tout the benefits of positive affirmations. In March, she was honored with the 2005 Appreciation Award by the National Association for Self- Esteem. In presenting the award the association said, “We salute the enterprising spirit of Barbie Reed, whose outstanding determination, resourcefulness and creativity have contributed to her entrepreneurial success and applaud her exceptional determination in surmounting life’s challenges to achieve success.” Women’s Lifestyle Magazine presented Reed with its Spirit Award for Inspiration at Daytona Beach Community College last October (2004). |
