Barbie K. Reed won the award for Inspirational.

Written in the program about her:

“Nearly twenty years ago Mrs. Reed spoke to a Displaced Homemakers class at DBCC
Women’s Center and shared some of her own personal history.  Her inspirational speech was
significant in helping the women attending the class in raising their self-esteem.  Never did
she look down on anyone but touched them from her heart as if she understood their pain.

Through her newly developed empowerment program for women and girls.  (Nurturing
Yourself Seminars)  Mrs. Reed will continue to inspire even more than ever.  Her mission and
purpose is to help improve the quality of life and health for females socially, physically,
financially, intellectually, emotionally and spiritually, and empower them to reclaim and
nurture themselves thus having a fuller, happier, and healthier lifestyle and future.”

For over twenty five years Barbie has
worked as a personal and professional
                                   development consultant helping people to
discover their unlimited potential.  She is
                                   the co-founder of “B.K.R. Unlimited”, a
                                   National Training Company and the
                                   founder of “Nurturing Yourself Seminars”,
                                   an organization focused on the
                                   empowerment of women and girls.

She has been described as “inspirational,
                                   creative, passionate, caring, encouraging
and energetic”.  She has been married
over 30 years to her wonderful husband
Ken, and is the mother of one son, Barry
and one granddaughter, Moniqua.  For the
past 16 years she has worked as a National Training
Consultant with her husband, inspiring groups at state and
national conferences; schools; colleges; universities; health care
organizations; child welfare organizations; city, county, state and federal
governments; businesses; and community groups.

In 1980 she started her own financial management business, where she
worked as a consultant with individuals and businesses.  For her
endeavors in this business, in 1989 she was recognized as one of the
top Ten Women Entrepreneurs in the country, by the U.S. Small
Business Administration.  Their quote about her said: “We salute the
enterprising spirit of Barbie Reed, whose outstanding determination,
resourcefulness and creativity have contributed to her entrepreneurial
success and applaud her exceptional determination in surmounting
life’s challenges to achieve success.   Your success story would be
inspirational to other women!”

Barbie exclaims that it takes faith, leadership and going after a cause
that is bigger than yourself.  It is also being willing to “step out” in spite
of fear, rejection, and those who say it can’t be done.  She has chosen
to be a “part of the solution” with her unique and innovative programs.
